The Republic of
Brittany is a Celtic nation made up of the former French departments of
Cotes-d’Armor, Finistere, Ille-et-Vilaine, Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique. After
Scotland and Catalonia they are one of the strongest separatist movements
currently in the region.
The flag of Brittany was created for the modern
nationalist movement in the 1920’s. It includes reference to the American and
Greek flags in its design, with the traditional coat of arms of the Breton
royalty from the Middle Ages.
