The
Northern Isles is another region of Scotland that is moving to break down into
even smaller units, during the disintegration of the United Kingdom. It draws
on its more Norse heritage, which sets it apart from the purely Gaelic regions
of the mainland.
It is
made up of the Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands chains. These are a part of
the Orkney and Shetland constituencies, currently a part of the Scotland
Highlands and Islands Region in the United Kingdom. It is highly likely that
these two island groups will form a union but they will also likely enter into
a Commonwealth with the Norwegian Crown. As such it is likely that the
Norwegian Crown will head their executive branch, whilst they will have a
united legislative Parliament.
Their
flag is a combination of the current flags for the Orkney Islands and Shetland
Islands. They follow the standard of the Nordic Cross style flags. The flag was
created on a Flag Forum by internet artists in 2012, when the independence
movement first began appearing in the news. All copyrights and terms of use
currently remain with the authors.
