Total Agnotological Awareness
Its using Agnotology that allowed the Uranium industry of Australia to announce today that there will be no threat to human health with the disaster in Japan.
Yeah right thats why the US military wont allow its members to get too much exposure and why large areas are being evacuated at huge cost and difficulty in the already disaster wracked area. If its so safe why not just leave everyone where they are and let everyone eat the radioactive spinach? Why refer to the brave workers trying to halt the meltdown as Nuclear Samurai and refer to their mission as a 'suicide' mission?? BECAUSE ITS NOT FREAKING SAFE YOU GREEDY MINE BASTARDS.
Of course we will still probably mine such materials for radiological health applications. But to say nuclear power is just totally safe like some at the Australian conference so dismissivly did surely gives us the right to attempt to capture and put on trial such CEO's in self defence as they threaten to exterminate the entire species with their greed?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
[WhiteyRound Eye says: So I am no expert but you can read more on reading Radiation levels on the site of the detector we are using. The individual who is operating it for us is much more knowledgeable on these things and assures me we should be seeing a reading between 0.15 and 0.20 CPS as our normal background hum here in Melbourne. If we start to see levels elevating above that we should start paying attention. This is not to suggest that we will be anywhere near radiation sickness levels if we do start to creep above that but just that something of note is going on that we should start paying attention to. Of course if the Plant goes off properly there is no telling where the wind will take the fall out. Very interesting times if you are into your Thermonuclear Apocalypse type lifestyle.]
[Ferretous says: interesting point of information from our friends at Ganymede Services (no not the office of the Space Dolphin! GS hosts the bright spark who brought the world the beer can widget) ... check out "Hormesis" described as follows "hormesis is any stimulatory or beneficial effect, induced by low doses of an agent, that can not be predicted by the extrapolation of detrimental or lethal effects induced by high doses of the same agent." When applied to radiation the emphasis is on SMALL amounts! Anyway, if we get a small increase from background, it could actually be beneficial to health ... how about that!?]
[Greg the Bunny says: yeah, but he did say only SMALL amounts ... not sure if people anywhere close to an accident would get only a small amount so this is not a concept which leads to a conclusion that we SHOULD have radiation leaks every now and again to stay healthy ... that would be an inductive logical flaw]
[Ferretous says: if you are interested in finding out more, Bunny, a good book to read would be ...
Radiation Hormesis and the Linear-No-Threshold Assumption by Charles L. Sanders, publisher: Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 2010
... here's an exceprt ...
"Take the case of “an almost perfect study in a human population that demonstrates the highly significant protective effects of near-continuous exposure to gamma radiation.” This case involved more than 180 apartment buildings that had been constructed in Taiwan in the early 1980s using recycled steel that was subsequently discovered to have been contaminated with radioactive cobalt-60. The 10,000 people who were housed there received large doses of radiation over a period of nine to 20 years that, according to LNT theory, should have led to a total of 302 cancer deaths over the 1983-2003 period studied, 232 of which would have been ordinarily expected had no radiation exposure occurred, with the additional 70 stemming from the exposure. To the researchers’ surprise, however, only seven cancer deaths were found, 225 fewer than would have been expected had the buildings been free of radiation. Instead of radiation increasing the death toll by 30%, it may have reduced the death toll by a staggering 97%.
The number of birth defects among children born in this radioactive environment also confounded LNT theory. Instead of the 48 defects expected, just three occurred."
(again, thanks to Ganymede Services for supplying the info)
... the book is quite comprehensive and up to date ... let us know what you think after reading it Bunny]
[Greg the Bunny says: all this reading ... so much stuff to learn ... far out ... this is why I come here to this website Ferretous ... so that you guys can filter the world for complicated stuff leaving me to read "reality in 500 words" synopses! Gosh, what, now you expect ME to do the legwork!? I'm Gen Y. You know that don't you?]
[SockRatEz says: hey hey Bunny, Gen Y is just another label to pigeon hole humans in order to simplify reality so as not to have to bother to engage people on an individual basis. If you are lazy and cannot keep up with things, don't drag a third of the world's population in with you purely based on age alone! ... lol ... there are plenty of other better reasons!]
[Ferretous says: I'll remind you both that some of your good friends are Gen Y ... Bunny! You're bloody Gen Y!!]
[SockRatEz says: you don't know how old I am ... does that make me in-gen-ious to you?]
[Ferretous says: eh ... ... no]
[HappyAppleStarlight says: hey this is great! maybe the airport porno scanners are actually good for us!][SockRatEz says: Lol ... your poor thing!]

Disinformation Sensitivity Workshop #4: The Blogger's Dilemma
So there I was gang, two thirds of the way through my regular Thursday night ritual of drinking whisky, eating expired tuna from the dumpster, reading my copy of Mein Kampf and yelling at the TV [#notreallybutfordramaticeffect ##idonthaveaTV] when I suddenly remembered: omFUCKINGg, you guys! I almost forgot to do my weekly Disinformation Sensitivity Workshop!
Or, to put it another way:
And this is why I had trouble "trusting" the

[Note: the three drunken monkeys that constitute Total Disinformation Awareness's hotshot legal team sent me a strongly worded memo advising me not to post a link to Mein Kampf here, just in case someone might be reading.]
** There, I said it.

Blatant Ratings Grab - Who likes FOOTBALL?? How about SEX??!

STOP THE PRESSES - Was Jarryd Blair really doing the International Sign Language "Gatorfingers" (loosely translated to a kinky two holed fingering in English) or was he simply emanating the great George W Bush with a devil sign ... or was GWB really doing gatorfingers with the entire Arizona State Athletics team? I am tipping the latter, that kinky fuck!
Now if he had been doing the Barracuda then well, phew, that would be offensive ...
Of course people will ask what is the difference ...
[sparx says: Actually, I'm totally psyched to respond to this because I bet no one would expect me to know or care anything about organised sports. OH HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW ME. Not only are organised sports an effective way for the ruling class to distract us all from the fact that we're being fucked over every single day [see: bread and circuses] it also works to reinforce the basic "us versus not-us" programming that we all get force-fed as kids and makes shit like wars possible. Think about it: you get two teams with different uniforms and anthems and flags and shit symbolically battling over territory, while the atmosphere gets the crowd's bloodlust pumping and everyone has the vicarious thrill of "victory" over the "enemy." So, in short, organised sports are an excellent substitute for war in times of relative peace, and if, hypothetically, a society that's already obsessed with organised sports ever does go to war, it's not that massive a cognitive leap to transfer the uniform-wearing, anthem-singing, flag-waving bloodlust from the symbolic sports field to the literal battle ground. You dig me?]
[HappyAppleStarlight says: I still don't get the Gatorfingers, you guys. Gators don't even have fingers.]
[sparx also says: And as for your so-called "Gatorfingers" I think you'll find it's actually called "the shocker" and if you're gonna use cheap smut as a way to get more hits, I'll thank you do a bit of fucking research and at least get your terminology correct. Would it kill you to do some due diligence?]
[Greg the Bunny says: yeah, that killed the mood.]
[Ferretous says: oh really ... no fingers huh? I'll thank YOU HappyAppleStarlight to do some basic research ... and stop spreading godsdamn disinfo about gators! As if they don't have enough to deal with, people trying to deny them etymological credit for shit an' all]
[SockRatEz says: ah, that's better, vitriol! and nice use of an underhanded diversion tactic!]Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Disinformation Sensitivity Workshop #3: Information Hides Information [In Information]
Truth ain't easy, but maybe it's not supposed to be. If you wanna wade into truth, in all it's fucking glory, you gotta be aware you're gonna be wading through a whole lot of lies masquerading as truth.
In light of all this, I have found a way to sleuth out secret shit on .gov.au internal sites. It's surprisingly easy and fun and [this is important] not illegal. So, do this search, right now:And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh.
And Fred Willy was, like, this sick old miserable German bastard who lived in the horrible olden days, right? And we prolly have it a lot fucking easier than him, but he recognised the joy [or gay science, if you prefer, I know, shut up] to be found in digging for truth, even if you never find it. So what's your fucking excuse, huh?For cheerfulness - or, in my own language gay science - is a reward: the reward of the long, brave, industrious and subterranean seriousness, of which, to be sure, not everyone is capable. But on the day we say with all our hearts: "Onwards! Our old morality too is part of the comedy!" we shall have discovered a new complication and possibility for the Dionysian drama of "The Destiny of the Soul" - and one can wager that the grand old eternal comic poet of our existence will be quick to make use of it! [1]
You will and you won't;
You'll be damned if you do,
You'll be damned if you don't.

[SockRatEz says: you sure it is not illegal? Did you check with the three Drunken Monkey Lawyers? I clicked on it and saw a load of "confidential" files ... I guess if it is on the interenet it is public domain? Or is this another trick like when WhiteyRoundEye told me to type "itanimulli" dot com (illuminati spelled backwards) into my browser ... go on do it, I dare you! Please confirm with the 3 DMLs and let us know]
[HappyAppleStarLight says: let me tell you a story about another group of people who had to confront evil and maybe do things that weren't that legal even though they were afraid. Dorothy and Toto went to Oz and fought The Wicked Witch Of The West and all her creepy FLYING MONKEYS and they had nothing but their courage and sparkly rainbow magic and catchy songs and THE GOODNESS IN THEIR HEARTS oh, and munchkins and in the end they TOTALLY MURDERED THAT WICKED WITCH AND THAT MEANS THEY WON!!! OK, I know that's The Wizard Of Oz, but so what you guys? IT'S STILL BASED ON REAL LIFE! You know?]
[sparx says: I feel like HappyAppleStarLight may have a good point somewhere in there. So I did consult the three drunken monkey lawyers and in between shots they said it's definitely not illegal. So. You guys. Come on. Seriously. Let's all try to be a bit more like Nietzsche and a bit less like Greg the Bunny and approach digging for truth with a little bit of fucking gay science already and not get caught up in fear, yeah? Yeah? Yeah. [#nietzscheforthewin]]
