The nation of Aragon is one of the Iberian countries that has
a long history of previous independence, before centralising forces forged the
modern state of Spain. The Kingdom of Aragon existed from around the end of the
first millennium. It has had roughly the same borders since then. It has its
own language, Aragonese, which is spoken in the region as well.
Because Aragon
was a heartland for the Anarchists, during the Spanish civil war, it is supposed
for this exercise that such a political trend will once again rise as the
region breaks down into smaller republics. Therefore the new nation is likely
to be a federation of its regions, with heavily decentralised political
structures. Because Aragon has maintained stable borders for so long there will
be very little change to the territories of this landlocked nation. However there
is one small exclave of Valencia, which Aragon has a claim to, that is likely
to merge with this new state.
This will leave a new Aragonese country made up
of the Aragon Autonomous Community, formerly in Spain. Added to this will be the
exclave of the Rincon de Ademuz Comarca, currently a part of the Valencia
Autonomous Community, in Spain.
The flag of Aragon is the Estrelada. It shares the base of the Senyera with the
neighbouring Catalan countries. This was the traditional standard of the Crown
of Aragon. Added to this is the red socialist star, as Aragon politics has been
deeply influenced by the anarchists and socialists. It is supposed that a new
Aragonese nation will be anarcho-socialist in its government structure.
