(Shame we don't have a Liberation Square anywhere in Australia. You will be Federalised never Freed) Just got back from the Tahrir Solidarity gathering in the city. Strange fucking times indeed!!! It began like any same old protest that Melbourne sees any day of the week. But then it actually got hit by an Agent Provocateur all the way here in Melbourne it's going on!!
The crowd was a mix of Caucasian and Arab Melbournites. So the most accents around were either Australian or Arab accents. Suddenly an Arab looking man with a strong American accent turned up at the back of the protest and began trying to start fights. He got intense and in the face of one Arab man holding an anti Mubarak banner. Hilariously he was screaming about how "Communism will kill you all. Stalin killed more than Hitler. If you overthrow Mubarak millions will die". Where he got that idea was hard to fathom. There were some red Socialist Alliance flags around but the main flags flying were Egyptian flags. And some Melbourne Unionists had certainly spoken but not once did anyone suggest that what was going on in Egypt was a communist Revolution nor did Communism get mentioned once in any of the speeches.
So it was obviously just a blatant attempt to try and start shit. Interesting that the guy had a US accent and that he was using their tired old bogey of Reds Under The Bed to try and stir terror amongst us. How far their tentacles now reach. Not for much longer one thinks depending on how tonight plays out. Anyway an Arab man put himself between the provocateur and the rest of the crowd he was trying to jostle with and just loudly kept saying "Peace Peace" over the top of the deranged Agents rantings. Then a posse of the local cuntstabulary who were on stand by began to move in and after a brief chat with the guy he bailed. Maybe they were telling him it wasn't going to work obviously and he could pick up his pay back at St Kilda.
The gathering then meandered on with some more speeches but then the most powerful moment came when they were able to get a phone call connected to a man INSIDE Tahrir square and we began to get a live description of what was happening relayed to us over the loudhailers. With modern technology the world really is more connected like never before and the irony is Globalisation will actually BE the downfall OF the Globalists as this continues to spiral and spread across the planet. A delicious irony.
Another point of interest was I noted Anonymous had even sent a member with one of the ubiquitous V for Vendetta masked individuals amongst the crowd. I guess quite a lot of La Grande Intifada has taken place in the Cyber domain of the Internet and Anonymous has been on the forefront of the Cyber War that has been raging for a number of months now.
After the speeches finished the gathering was told to march down to Federation Square where a conference on Wikileaks was taking place. Members of the Wikileaks conference were then going to march out and join us in solidarity in Federation Square.
So we began to move off and then all holy hell broke loose from the heavens. The huge storm broke over Melbourne. We were pretty much WADING down Swanston River. I thought if only Max Keiser were here to see this he would be eating up the symbolism. "A huge storm is breaking across the world both Politically AND Literally".
So anyway a very drenched crowd finally made it to Federation Square. It had dropped in numbers by now due to the rain. A small group came out of the Wikileaks forum to join us. Again I think numbers were down due to the wild weather. As we arrived in Fed Square Julian Assange's image was up on the main TV screen above us. But shortly after we arrived it was taken down and replaced with the Emergency Warning screens announcing that a huge storm was hitting Melbourne and putting up the SES help numbers etc. Damn that Cyclone LOL.
At this point one of the most surreal things I have witnessed in awhile happened. It was the time for the call to prayer and so the organisers asked everyone to clear a space so that Muslims in the crowd could pray as the crowds in Egypt have been doing all week inside Tahrir square. The non Muslims have been clearing a space and forming a defence ring around the Muslims inside the square at the Call To Prayer in order to give them the space and safety to pray. And now a similar scene on a much smaller scale was taking place in Federation Square. It was a surreal sight to see 60 or so Arab Australians facing Mecca and praying in the driving driving rain in the almost deserted Federation Square. The weirding is definitely getting weirder.
After prayers finished Adam Bandt (our Melbourne Greens minister) came out to accept a letter that he promised to return to Canberra with to push the Ranga bitch to make sure in her statements on the situation that she finally say that the US should NOT have a say in who the new Egyptian President will be. That really IS the most amazing hypocrisy that this moment is unveiling. The great Asshole Bush announced on the eve of the million man butcher in Iraq that we were going to go in and commit genocide in order to 'spread' democracy in the Middle East.
Of course he meant to install regimes that do our bidding. And anyway the 'democracy' they did end up installing in Iraq has ended with a hung and broken Parliament. Well I guess that IS our version of democracy at the moment. But then of course, now a popular Democratic movement is raging across the whole Middle East, that just happens to look like its going to topple all the numerous pro US dictators in the region and the Americans are back peddling so outrageously "Oh well we didn't mean THAT sort of democracy".
In fact I'd say that is why the violence and chaos has erupted the way it has in Egypt. Initially Obama thought nothing of it. "It will get crushed". Then the sheer numbers made it clear it wasn't going to go away so back up plan B kicked in. "We support democratic movements of course Mubarak must go El Baradei (our next stooge in waiting) must take over". But then El Baradei was booed and told to leave the square and has not been back since last Tuesday.
So in go the goons. Mubarak is way to addicted to US aid to have done anything without their blessing. So once it became clear they might lose this most important of chess pieces in the region the Globalists resorted to their favourite "Kill Pillage Unleash Carnage" paradigm that gives them so many wet dreams. So it's good that the message our Adam Bandt is taking to Canberra is less focussed on Mubarak leaving (that seems a fait acompli now) but to allow the Egyptians to determine their own future irrespective of their place in the world strategic game due to their owning the Suez Canal.
Anyway as the gathering ended one of the speakers said "we all know where we will be tonight glued to our screens watching events unfold". How true. Back to the screen I go!!!!
