IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Okay as we all know the game is completely changed now. For the next bit we will be focusing on dispelling the most important disinformation of our lifetimes. Our very lives depend on it. Thankfully we have access to a private "Citizen Monitor". We will upload semi regular data tracks of what they are reading. Of course any wild spikes will immediately be alerted to. For now though this is what we are reading in the southern Australian city of Melbourne. We can take this as our 'normal' read. A good control to gauge any moves against in the coming days:

[sparx says: can you post some more information on what these CPS numbers mean? For example, how high will the CPS count have to be and how long will that have to last for it to be a harmful dose? Our global hive-mind [#akawikipedia] has some information about that here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation_poisoning#Exposure_levels but having no "background" [#seewhatididthere?] on this makes it quite confusing.]

[WhiteyRound Eye says: So I am no expert but you can read more on reading Radiation levels on the site of the detector we are using. The individual who is operating it for us is much more knowledgeable on these things and assures me we should be seeing a reading between 0.15 and 0.20 CPS as our normal background hum here in Melbourne. If we start to see levels elevating above that we should start paying attention. This is not to suggest that we will be anywhere near radiation sickness levels if we do start to creep above that but just that something of note is going on that we should start paying attention to. Of course if the Plant goes off properly there is no telling where the wind will take the fall out. Very interesting times if you are into your Thermonuclear Apocalypse type lifestyle.]

[Ferretous says: interesting point of information from our friends at Ganymede Services (no not the office of the Space Dolphin! GS hosts the bright spark who brought the world the beer can widget) ... check out "Hormesis" described as follows "hormesis is any stimulatory or beneficial effect, induced by low doses of an agent, that can not be predicted by the extrapolation of detrimental or lethal effects induced by high doses of the same agent." When applied to radiation the emphasis is on SMALL amounts! Anyway, if we get a small increase from background, it could actually be beneficial to health ... how about that!?]

[Greg the Bunny says: yeah, but he did say only SMALL amounts ... not sure if people anywhere close to an accident would get only a small amount so this is not a concept which leads to a conclusion that we SHOULD have radiation leaks every now and again to stay healthy ... that would be an inductive logical flaw]

[Ferretous says: if you are interested in finding out more, Bunny, a good book to read would be ...

Radiation Hormesis and the Linear-No-Threshold Assumption by Charles L. Sanders, publisher: Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 2010

... here's an exceprt ...

"Take the case of “an almost perfect study in a human population that demonstrates the highly significant protective effects of near-continuous exposure to gamma radiation.” This case involved more than 180 apartment buildings that had been constructed in Taiwan in the early 1980s using recycled steel that was subsequently discovered to have been contaminated with radioactive cobalt-60. The 10,000 people who were housed there received large doses of radiation over a period of nine to 20 years that, according to LNT theory, should have led to a total of 302 cancer deaths over the 1983-2003 period studied, 232 of which would have been ordinarily expected had no radiation exposure occurred, with the additional 70 stemming from the exposure. To the researchers’ surprise, however, only seven cancer deaths were found, 225 fewer than would have been expected had the buildings been free of radiation. Instead of radiation increasing the death toll by 30%, it may have reduced the death toll by a staggering 97%.

The number of birth defects among children born in this radioactive environment also confounded LNT theory. Instead of the 48 defects expected, just three occurred."

(again, thanks to Ganymede Services for supplying the info)

... the book is quite comprehensive and up to date ... let us know what you think after reading it Bunny]

[Greg the Bunny says: all this reading ... so much stuff to learn ... far out ... this is why I come here to this website Ferretous ... so that you guys can filter the world for complicated stuff leaving me to read "reality in 500 words" synopses! Gosh, what, now you expect ME to do the legwork!? I'm Gen Y. You know that don't you?]

[SockRatEz says: hey hey Bunny, Gen Y is just another label to pigeon hole humans in order to simplify reality so as not to have to bother to engage people on an individual basis. If you are lazy and cannot keep up with things, don't drag a third of the world's population in with you purely based on age alone! ... lol ... there are plenty of other better reasons!]

[Ferretous says: I'll remind you both that some of your good friends are Gen Y ... Bunny! You're bloody Gen Y!!]

[SockRatEz says: you don't know how old I am ... does that make me in-gen-ious to you?]

[Ferretous says: eh ... ... no]

[HappyAppleStarlight says: hey this is great! maybe the airport porno scanners are actually good for us!]

[SockRatEz says: Lol ... your poor thing!]
